Pitch # 1

David Strorm was an amazingly imaginative boy, who often dreamed of a fantastic place when he was young. Then, he went to tell his ridiculous dream to his elder sister, Mary. However, Mary warned him that he must not share his dream to anyone else, as the people in the district had a sharp eye in abnormal things. He would be in great trouble if people knew his strange dream. Since there was gap between David and his sisters, he often went to the top of the high bank and played lonely. His favorite activity was sliding down the bank at a fast speed and then landed on the soft sand at the bottom. Suddenly, an unknown girl, Sophie, came out from the bushes and joined David. Unfortunately, Sophie’s foot was stuck between two rocks after playing a few times. At first, she did not let David cut off her shoelaces and pull her foot out. Finally, she agreed with David since her foot was too painful. Furthermore, David discovered her secret, that she had six toes, one more toe than normal person. In the mean time, he searched for Sophie’s mother and they went back to Sophie’s home. At last, he promised to keep this secret forever.

Pitch # 2

In these ten pages, the author mainly talked about the history of the Strorm’s family. Therefore, the story became quite mild and nothing really exciting. David’s grandfather, Elias, was the first person who settled down in Waknuk. He built a house and owned all the land there. This is the reason why David’s father, Joseph, can be that powerful in the district. Unfortunately, a group of foreign people, the Fringes, often attacked Waknuk. Waknuk was not peaceful anymore and the Waknuk citizens hated them. They called them the mutants. There was always a quote in their mind, “Watch thou for the mutants!” that made them kept away from those who had one more finger or one more toe. They were really anxious about them. These were the background information and it really helped to develop the story afterward.

Pitch # 3

As the author had written in the previous chapter, David Strorm lived in an obviously traditional family that all humans should have an image of god. If those who broke the rules, Sophie and the Fringes, and discovered by one of the Waknuk people, they would be treated automatically mean, or perhaps they would be received a penalty of death. However, it was really hard to keep a secret; so he shared Sophie’s secret to Uncle Axel and his half-cousin, Rosalind. Fortunately, they agreed to keep it for her. Suddenly, the Fringes declared war to the Waknuk people and they were literally anxious about that. Finally, the Fringes were defeated and they captured some Fringes back to Waknuk. The worst thing was, the inspector reminded David’s dad that they were protected by the government; therefore, they could not kill those Fringes and David’s dad was pissed. In these pages, I could feel how the Waknuk people hated the Fringes, but all people should be equal under god. Were they right to isolate the Fringes? It’s an really interesting part of the story.

Pitch # 4

One day when David and Sophie were catching shrimp in the river, his classmate, Alan, came to visit him. In order to hide Sophie’s toes, David threw her shoes towards her immediately but one dropped into the water. Unfortunately, Alan saw a footmark with six toes on it: he realized that was Sophie’s footmark and she was a mutant. He ran to catch her: however, he failed because David stopped him by punching him hardly. They kept fighting and rolled down the hill. In urgent, Sophie hit Alan by a sharp rock and he fainted. Then they went to tell Mr. and Mrs. Wender, therefore, they left Waknuk as fast as they could. For sure, Alan ran to tell David’s father after he rose up. Then they called David back and asked him seriously, but David said nothing to them because he knew they would do something mean to the Wender’s family, perhaps murder. The worst thing finally happened, and I think the author was trying to create some suspense, so the story will go more and more interesting. Also, David is going to face some challenge that he might save the mutants.

Pitch # 5

After uncle Axel described how terrible the entire world was, David told him one more secret that he could communicate with others far away, not by talking, but just thinking on their own. This special communication included his half-cousin, Rosalind. It was a really unusual thing; therefore, he could not tell others as usual the people in Waknuk are very traditional. In my opinion, it was so sad to live in Waknuk because people there didn’t have freedom and they are controlled by an inspector and David’s father, Joseph. They could not dedicate what is right or wrong. Actually people with one more toe or one more finger are a very little stuff. However, why were they so anxious and worried about that? The only reason I can think about is they were not well-educated.

Pitch # 6

There was a new baby girl born in the Strorm family who named Petra. She is a definitely a true image of god, so Joseph Strorm and his wife, Emily, were very please about that. Another good thing is, David was getting more and more freedom because his parents were putting attention on his little sister. One day, Auntie Harriet, Emily’s sister, suddenly came visit them. The reason that she came here was because she had a baby who was not “normal”. However, it was the last chance for her since her husband is going to divorce with her. Furthermore, she wanted to get help from her sister that she hoped she could exchange babies for a couple days and pretended that was her baby, so she could pass the check from the inspector. As Emily listened to Joseph very much, she got angry about Harriet and ordered her to take her abnormal baby away from the house. I am really sad about this part of the story because mothers love their children so much. They won’t want their children to hurt or get anything wrong. However, in Harriet case, no one understands her. Do they know how important is a baby is on a mother’s side? Do they know how painful to see their children are sent away? It is a really serious problem in Waknuk. No one tries to understand a mother’s feeling and they seems like careless to them.

Pitch # 7

Auntie Harriet found dead in the river near Waknuk, however, no one knew where her baby was, and no one mentioned anything about him. David got scared about his auntie’s death because he thought that was not her fault. In his opinion, being abnormal was not a big deal. There were nine children in Waknuk or lived near Waknuk who can communicate with their mind without talking face to face. A month ago, one of them suddenly stopped communicating with them and they were feared about if they were found out by anyone. Finally, Uncle Axel discovered that that guy was died in accident. One day, when David was working busily in the farm, his head felt really achy and he was liked pulled to run to the river bank. When he was arrived at the river bank, he saw her little sister, Petra. She is the newest children who can share her mind with others. David was surprised and amazed about that and he felt more relaxed because he was not the only one who had this ability in his family. The story was getting more and more anxious as there were more new characters and more people had special talent. The narrator was wondering who he could trust since the people relationship in Waknuk were too complicated. Also, he was needed to keep the secret of Petra and his weird ability. Furthermore, he didn’t get much help from others. It was a hard time for him and I think he would overcome it soon.

Pitch # 8

Anne, one of those eight people who can communicate in minds, announced that she was going to marry Alan, the son of the blacksmith and he had none special ability. Others were worried about that Alan would discover it someday if Anne communicated with them during the night; therefore, they persuaded Anne not to marry Alan, instead of married the guys in the eight. However, she didn’t listen to them because she thought Alan was his only love and, she didn’t want to waste her time for waiting an unknown person who she was not sure if he suited her or not. Moreover, she closed her mind and stopped talking with them, included her sister, Rachel. Eight months after their marriage, Alan got shot by an arrow in the field. As Anne was too upset and she was completely stressed out, she hanged herself and left a letter to her parents that stated those eight people were the murderers of Alan, but she was definitely wrong. Another important event was while Petra went to the woods alone; her pony was attacked by a weird creature. Since Petra was scared, she called the eight people by mind and they all arrived in different time. While some of them were gathering together, an unknown man came out suddenly without notice and asked them why they were all here. Fortunately, he didn’t ask for any details later on and they were saved. The story was getting more and more exciting, was it good to let everyone knew about this useful talent? Was this talent an image of god?

Pitch # 9

Uncle Axel used his arrow to kill Alan because he knew Anne had told him about the eight Chrysalids in Waknuk, and they were all in great danger. The night after Uncle Axel told him about Alan’s death, Michael warned David and Petra to leave as fast as they can since the inspector had captured Sally and Katherine and he wanted to catch them the next morning. Therefore, David, Rosalind, Petra and Michael left Waknuk secretly at night without noticing. When Michael was communicating with Petra, he found out that Petra was transmitting message to a mystery person too. On their way, the mystery girl, who was from the place David dreamed years ago, explained to them that she would rescue them and bring then to a Sealand if they could protect Petra safely, and they promised.

Pitch #10

Suddenly, they were captured by those Fringes folk and David found out the spider-like man was his uncle. They also met Sophie in the Fringes campus which She loved David' s uncle so much now. Finally they were escaped from the Fringes, after that, they got news that Joseph Strorm, David' s uncle and Sophie were died in war. David, Rosalind and Petra were paralyzed by a form of cobweb-like substance and they were immobile. When Michael wanted to run away, the Seawoman came out from the door of the fish-shaped craft. She freed Michael and removed the cobweb substance on their body. All the other people died because of the substance. The Seawoman was dressed in white garment that she looked like an angel. She was delighted when she saw Petra and she promised she would train her with all the teaching they can offer because Petra was a gift from god. Before they left, Michael announced that he wanted to go back to Waknuk and saved Rachel. He asked Petra to send a message to Rachel that he was going back and he left immediately. David, Rosalind and Petra entered the Sealand joyfully and they could hear the thoughts buzzing around them.
